Well, well, well, I may have the answer. Along with being a known hub for local music, the Sail Inn in Tempe offers 2 stages for live music and performances. Oh yeah, the bigger of the two is, you guessed it, outside. Along with offering multiple stages for performances, equipped with room for dancing and plenty of sitting and standing room, the Sail Inn offers a connection to the local music scene quite unlike any other venue.
Adorning the walls, inside and out, hang countless fliers informing bar patrons and music fans alike of upcoming shows and benefits held within the Sail Inn and throughout the surrounding valley. Having been through rough times in the past, the Sail Inn has settled into the position of the local music scene’s mother, encouraging and molding its “artistic children” and then sending them out to share their skills and talents with others. All the while, providing a safe haven to return to for family type musical gatherings/or and to support other local causes by hosting charitable events.
On any given night one can walk into the Sail Inn and find any number of things happening. Live music being played from one or both stages, dance lessons being taught to a full live band, or old friend and acquaintances catching up and introducing new additions. The Sail Inn encourages all types of social gatherings, musical or other, and provides a familiar and accommodating refuge to relax in and even grab a bite to eat! Food is outside next to the bar. Yes they have two of those as well. Do they know local music fans or what?!
Never lacking in excitement and entertainment, you may have to pay at the door but it is worth it to get inside and visit with the fam. When hasn’t it been too long? Just as it always has in the past, the Sail Inn stands with doors waiting open and music playing, waiting for the next reunion or celebration of the local music scene to call its children home, always with the attitude, the more the merrier.
Finally the desert is deemed livable again, winter time is almost here and people can’t wait to get outside. Great for those outdoorsy types and star gazers and whatnot, but what about us local music fans who like to listen to local live music while socializing with other desert rats and enjoying a frosty beverage or two… What are our options?
