Who: Tricia Roscoe (vocals), Patrick McGarey (guitar), Stanko Zovko (bass), Michael McDearmon (drums)
What: Soul, rock, pop, funk
Sole Function is feisty. The soul-punk-pop combination keeps the band churning fun, catchy tunes. Lead singer Tricia Roscoe is a firecracker on stage evoking a range of funky vocalists from Eartha Kitt to Gwen Stefani. If only the energy of the crowd can rise to meet that of the band a stellar show is sure to be had. At a show in May at Tempe’s Sail Inn, the band did not relax their showmanship in the face of a less-than-exuberant crowd. Then again, one female fan did spend much of the night dancing in front of the stage with an empty beer cozy. It was enough to keep my spirits high. Perhaps she kept the band going as well.
