The Tempe local sound often hears the mixture of punk, hardcore and a little metal. Casket Life’s new album Building a Better Disaster harnesses that punk power. With catchy titles like: “Pro- Beer,” “Shit's about to Get Awesome” and, lest we forget, “Shit's About to Get Romantic.” These guys do put quite a bit of energy into their songs. From the opening song “The Answer,” the listener is brought to that gonna-have-a-good-time state of mind. From catchy choruses to fast verses, these guys rock out while dressed as coffin salesmen. Saturday May 1st brought a ruckus crowd to Tempe’s own Yucca Tap Room for the release of Casket Life’s Building a Better Disaster. Punkers, drunkards, and tall assholes who like to stand right in front of me all rallied in attendance. With opening acts like Rumspringer, I only expected the best from main act.
In truth, punk can be very loud, very messy and live, very indistinctive. Sometimes you just have to try to have fun by jumping in/out of the pit, but this band stands out live for their unique style and powerful, however spastic, energy.
