Kilimanjaro Rocks!
2009 Best Happy Hour Award:

Hometown hero Robin Wilson has finally returned to the Valley to help quench our Happy Hour thirst.  Wilson, the lead singer for Tempe's Gin Blossoms, who now lives with his family in New York, has brought back to Arizona a message of hope in the form of Kilimanjaro Rocks, a project dedicated to raising funds for a cancer center in Nairobi, Kenya.  All the proceeds from his Happy Hour shows over the summer will be matched by the singer.  Then Wilson will set out with other participating rock stars to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Glad to have Robin back, even if for a short time.  Come out to hear Tempe's human jukebox as he was known in Long Wong's days and contribute to a deserving cause.  For more information, go to lovehopestrength.org.

2009 Best Happy Hour:

Now, we know Robin spends most of his time in New York, but he hasn't forgotten his roots in Sunny AZ.  This year brought with it another extended stay from the famed local and an intermittent series of performances at the recently-closed Last Exit in Tempe.  The goal of these early performances was to raise money for Kilimanjaro Rocks before embarking up the mountain.  It was a nostalgic moment shared by many local music scenesters but those new to Robin’s happy hour were in no way disappointed.  He still delivers his unique, unblemished melodies in his own special Robin way.
