Everyone loves pizza. Or, at least, everyone should. Magpies Gourmet Pizza in Tucson has something for everyone, making it near impossible not to find the perfect pie within their menu options. If you can’t find it here, I guess you just don’t like pizza.
For 20 years, Magpies (short for Magnificent Pies) has enjoyed considerable recognition for their famed pizzas. When I happened upon the spot, I wasn’t in the mood for a traditional pizza. Bad timing, I realize. Instead I opted for the Pesto Pizza topped with Piñon nuts and cilantro. Astoundingly delicious, the slight variations on this standard dish gave homage to regional flavors in an original and scrumptious way. Next time I might take that extra adventurous step and opt for the Juan Carlos Pesto Pizza which differs only in the additional of jalapenos to the pesto sauce.
Classic pizzas and enterprising adaptations abound in fresh vegetables are found on the menu. Vegetarian pizzas are denoted for concerned eaters and a number of “lite” or cheese free selections are available as well for the health conscious and vegan visitors. No worries to all you meat-required traditionalists, The Beast awaits you with salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, and hamburger.
Take on a whole pizza or buy it by the slice. Either way, make sure you try Magpies soon if you haven’t already. With a number of locations in the Tucson area, there’s no reason to wait!
