The recording is eagerly awaited - the band's been playing together for several years now without a proper release. Originally dubbed The Friendly Guys, the band got their start as a cover group, performing anything from Pop-Punk covers of 50's Doo-Wop to 80's Synth-Pop. From the start they were a killer live band, adept at catching the audience’s attention with evocative stage-presence and their plain old fun take on classic Oldies. But the sound has matured significantly since the days of The Friendly Guys.

It'd be tempting to say that one could hear tinges of everyone from Radiohead to Cave In to The Beatles in Genre’s music, but it would be inaccurate. While their songs move from spacey soundscapes to mathy weaves of riffs to pop hooks with great ease, the truth is that Genre really just sounds like Genre. They're original and inventive, a pleasant surprise in a scene so often glutted with run of the mill punk and stagnant bar rock.

Genre released The Weepy Omelette EP on October 28th at Scottsdale’s Rogue Bar with local groups Treasurefruit, The General Electric, and Sun Ghost filling out the bill. You can check out Genre’s music at their website.

Weepy Omelette EP

by Zachary Toporek
If Phoenix band Genre has one thing going for them, it's character. In their ranks they've got bristling mustaches, kooky attitudes, various multi-instrumentalists, and spacey-pop-punk sounds to boot.

And if they've got two things going for them, it's character and a brand new recording, the Weepy Omelette EP, released this October.
