With members of The Gin Blossoms, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, The Pistoleros and Dead Hot Workshop,The Persuaders are Tempe rock royalty. They could rest on their laurels, spending their days reminiscing about the 90s and the national attention Mill Avenue music received.
Instead, they move forward. Not content to be the kind of musicians that brag about their accomplishments of twenty years ago, the band has been playing around town lately.
Their shows aren't about playing hits from the “good old days.” Over the past two years, the band has written and recorded a ten song album. They had no intention of playing shows, but the songs came together so completely the group became eager to try them out live.
It's a good thing for us that they did. The songs available on their website will not surprise anyone familiar with the 90s in Tempe. This is guitar-driven rock, the kind that's best with a shot of well whiskey and a story about the one that got away.
What makes The Persuaders special is that they put these songs together incredibly well. These aren't the guys down the street who insist on getting drunk and playing out-of-tune covers of 90s rock. The Persuaders are professional musicians giving back to the town that helped launch their careers. Check out one of their shows and thank them.
