Jake Payne is a man of many talents… a visual artist who’s preferred medium is glass, an accomplished musician, and Sedona soulster here to make the world a better place.
Recently, I had the opportunity to catch the Jake in the Valley at Tempe’s Sail Inn performing a number of songs from his forth coming EP expected later this year. I’ve seen Jake perform a number of times over the years and can say with certainty he has developed into a truly artful musician that has been thoughtfully crafted and trained to achieve new levels of proficiency as both a guitarist and a vocalist.
As a songwriter, Jake creates beautiful picturescapes. One must assume his eyes have been privy to many natural splendors as he counts Cave Creek as his hometown and Sedona as his current locale. And he carries these wondrous images across in his music.
Payne’s lithe yet controlled voice is matched by playful melodies. The light-hearted sound allows for hope even in the darker moments of songs. Common to many of his songs, Jake’s fist single “Moonshine” proves a lively, imaginative track capable of elevating the listener’s mood without entirely covering over the more contemplative thread that runs deep within the song.
If the single and live performance are any indication of what’s to come, I can’t wait for the EP. Be on the lookout for when Jake Payne might be passing through your neck of Arizona for a great show!
